My name is Rod Groom, and I am Christian, retired, but try not to be a retired Christian. Although some days I am just a lazy Christian. I am a retired Corrections Major in the state of Florida, where I served as a security manager in State Corrections for just under 27 years, then went on and worked Deferred Retirement as a Correctional Probation Officer in Melbourne and Palm Bay, Florida for another five years.
I am a member of New Beginnings Community Church in Sarasota, Florida, where my wife, Shirley Groom, is our pastor. I help with discipleship classes and groups, and am a Certified Lay Minister with the Global Methodist Church. I currently participate in two Life Groups within the church. Shirley is planning to retire next year in the summer, and we may then visit more regularly with the seven children and eleven grandchildren we share across the United States, with one in Germany.
I call this site Rod Groom’s Thinking, as I am still able to think, after a fashion. Sometimes I wonder about my thinking processes, but I am gradually getting more reasonable… in most things, anyway! I have had an eventful life, filled with many mistakes and divergent paths, but thank God for his guidance back to something resembling normalcy.
I am very interested in the Revised Common Lectionary, and try to post something on the readings each week.
